On Friday 3rd June, TaskForce leadership attended “State Election 2022: VAADA Call to Parties – AOD Policy”, an event hosted by the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association (VAADA) to hear from seven cross bench minor parties across both houses of Victorian Parliament regarding their positions on alcohol and other drugs.

Representatives from the Reason Party, The Greens, Animal Justice, Transport Matters, Liberal Democrats and Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party along with Independent for Mildura all spoke with a near consensus view on the need to shift away from the war on drugs narrative and move into policy that sees alcohol and other drugs responded to as a health issue.

It was incredibly heartening to see so many crossbenchers supportive of the work which the sector does and to be so strongly across so many sector issues.

The event provided the opportunity to rub shoulders with the sector as well as the crossbenchers and their staff.
